Trump Predicts Israel-Iran Ceasefire Will Be Permanent
President Donald Trump declared Monday evening that the ceasefire he brokered between Israel and Iran marks the end of all military clashes between the nations. In a phone conversation, he asserted, “This truce is indefinite, set to last indefinitely,” and confidently added, “I don’t see them clashing again.”
Trump shared on Truth Social that both nations have committed to a staged ceasefire, to be implemented within the next day. An insider familiar with the talks informed NBC News that Trump, alongside Vice President JD Vance, facilitated the agreement with key assistance from Qatari leaders, who presented the truce terms to Iran.
A high-ranking White House aide revealed that Trump directly contacted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, firmly stating, “No more conflict, no more battles. Iran is notably weakened.” Simultaneously, Trump’s security team relayed messages to Iran via mediators from the Oval Office.
The aide noted that Trump persuaded Netanyahu to accept the ceasefire, while Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and special envoy Steve Witkoff conveyed to Iran—both openly and discreetly—that the U.S. sought peace and urged their compliance. The phased approach, with Iran halting fire for 12 hours followed by Israel for another 12, was Trump’s solution to address Israeli doubts about Iran’s commitment.
Another source told NBC News that Trump spoke with Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, earlier Monday, promising Israeli cooperation if Qatar could secure Iran’s agreement. Qatar’s Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, then collaborated with Vance and engaged Iran.
Netanyahu’s office confirmed Israel’s acceptance of the bilateral ceasefire early Tuesday, shortly after Iranian state media reported Iran enforcing a truce. Iranian outlets, including Press TV on X, stated, “Ceasefire starts after four Iranian strikes on Israeli-held areas,” noting Iran’s final missile launch.
Recent reports from Iranian health officials indicate Israel’s attacks have claimed 400 lives and injured 3,000, while Iran’s counterstrikes have killed 24 in Israel. Trump remarked to NBC, “Many lives were lost, and it was heading toward worse.”
Over the weekend, the U.S. struck three Iranian nuclear sites with over 125 aircraft. Despite Trump’s warning of severe retaliation against U.S. targets, Iran targeted a Qatari base housing U.S. troops, with no casualties reported. Trump labeled Iran’s response “feeble” on Truth Social, encouraging both nations toward peace.
Announcing the ceasefire, Trump proposed naming the conflict “THE 12 DAY WAR,” a term credited to him by the White House official.
