Fatal Building Collapse in Cape Coast Claims Life, Ignites Concerns Over Aging Structures

Cape Coast, Ghana – A tragic building collapse in the Idun Amissekyir neighborhood early Tuesday, June 25, 2025, has resulted in one fatality and one individual hospitalized, intensifying worries about the condition of deteriorating buildings in this culturally rich city. The residential structure gave way at dawn, trapping two people beneath the debris.

Emergency responders quickly transported the victims to Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, where a woman was pronounced deceased, and a man remains under medical care. This disaster follows closely on the heels of a similar incident last Saturday in the same region, which claimed the lives of two senior citizens and left three others wounded.

Following the prior event, Cape Coast South MP George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan emphasized the importance of the city’s historic architecture, advocating for its restoration rather than removal. “These time-honored edifices are integral to our heritage; we must protect and uphold their legacy,” he stated. Municipal Chief Executive George Justice Arthur, who inspected the site, echoed this sentiment, noting that not every aged building warrants demolition.

Royal TV will continue to monitor this developing situation.
